Today, I want to bring light to a painful, yet important topic that so many of us may face in our lives – gaslighting.
Gaslighting is a manipulative tool used in toxic relationships that erodes your sense of self, your ability to trust your own perception of the world, and leaves you questioning your reality. It’s a soul-damaging form of abuse, one that I am all too familiar with from my own journey through narcissistic relationships.
As a survivor, I’ve spent years untangling myself from the web of gaslighting, self-doubt, and shame. It’s a long road, but healing is possible. When we start recognising the signs, we can begin to reclaim our power and free ourselves from the hold these relationships have over us.
Five signs of gaslighting in a relationship
- Blatant lies: You catch them lying constantly, yet they act as if nothing happened. Over time, this makes you second-guess yourself, questioning even the simplest things.
- Persistent denial: You know what they said, but they deny it ever happened. Slowly, you begin to doubt your own memory and start accepting their version of reality.
- Shifting blame: They accuse you of the very behaviours they are guilty of. You find yourself defending against lies while feeling utterly confused.
- Confusion and chaos: Their actions leave you in a constant state of uncertainty. This emotional fog makes it easier for them to stay in control.
- Weaponising your loves: They know what you care about most, and use it against you, making you feel like you’re failing at everything that matters.
Healing from gaslighting meditation

This will bring you closer to healing, self-compassion, and freedom from the darkness of toxic relationships.
