What could Mindful Meditation do for you?
You may have heard a lot about Mindful Meditation in the media recently. This ancient Buddhist practice is becoming increasingly popular in the West. GP surgeries in the UK are now running Mindfulness courses for patients who are struggling with anxiety, depression or having to cope with ongoing severe pain.
My own journey in meditation began when I started to practise Yoga as a teenager. After the birth of my first child in 1998 I suffered with Post-Natal Depression and had anxiety, panic attacks and sleep problems. I found that simple Zen Buddhist, mindful meditation techniques helped me to slowly recover and I now meditate regularly as part of my spiritual practice, as a single mother of three children, I could not be without it!
So what could Mindful Meditation do for you? We all lead busy, stressful lives, we are bombarded daily by negative media, traffic jams, hectic family schedules, work pressure and endless household chores. Spending a little time each day meditating can help to ’empty the stress bucket’, clearing space in the mind so that we don’t permanently feel mentally overloaded.
Meditation brings about a feeling of peace and wellbeing, bringing us back to our natural, balanced centre. Meditation is a wonderful therapy that is free and you can practice it at home with guidance. If you are suffering with any pain condition, stress related disease or problems such as depression, OCD or anxiety, meditation can help you to find a way out of the shadows and into the light.
There are lots of books and CD’s that can really help and be a great resource to help you learn the very simple techniques involved in Mindful Meditation. Joining a meditation group or coming on a retreat can be a great start to a new practice or one that you may already have established. Learning new ideas and being guided through a mediation with a teacher can be very beneficial. I love sharing everything I have learnt over the years, mediation has saved me many times when life has been stressful, always helping me back to my peaceful core.
